Meet Renske
My name is Renske, I am 33 years old and I live on the beautiful island of Vlieland. In my free time, I enjoy being in nature or on the beach. I also spend a lot of time with my wife and our five rats, who always bring a lot of joy and fun.
My introduction to WestCord started back in 2017. I began working at the Strandpaviljoen ‘t Badhuys, which had just been rebuilt when I started. At first, I only worked there during the holidays and occasionally on weekends, but eventually, I spent five wonderful years at ‘t Badhuys. I started as a server and eventually worked my way up to shift leader. I also took a great course to become a trainer. After that period, I moved on to Hotel de Wadden, a cozy little hotel in the Dorpsstraat. After years of working in the hospitality industry, I wanted to try something new. That's how I ended up at Seeduyn, where I now happily work at the reception.
My workday starts at 7:30 AM with a calm cup of tea. Then I set everything up: lights on, music on, cash in the register. After that, I open my email to see if anything exciting has happened (fortunately, usually nothing). We work with handy checklists to ensure everything is checked properly. Later in the morning, a colleague joins me. If it’s an intern, I always ask how they are doing with school and if they have any questions. This is also usually when the check-outs happen. In the afternoon, I’m busy with emails, phone calls, and greeting guests at the reception. Just before the check-in time, a colleague arrives to take over my shift, and then we discuss the morning before I head home.
The thing I enjoy the most about my job is the great colleagues and, of course, the fantastic location of our hotel. The most important thing for me is that I can discuss any concerns and that there are opportunities for growth. Good communication and room for development are essential for me.
Where would you like to develop further in the near future?
I would love to focus more on guiding interns and students, helping them get the most out of their internships.
What has been your highlight so far in your job at WestCord Hotels?
The absolute highlight of my career at WestCord Hotels is meeting my wife. That makes my work here even more special!
How would your colleagues describe you, or what three compliments would they give you?
I asked one of my colleagues, and they said: "I would describe Renske as a helpful colleague, someone you can easily brainstorm with, and who is always up for a good conversation. Additionally, she’s incredibly reliable: what she says, she does, and you can always count on her."
